This is my own small tribute to Extreme, who broke up in 1996 - both they and their music had a huge impact on my life throughout the period 1992 - 1996, and I still love their music - it's only a pity they didn't get to record the 5th album.
Let me know if you think this page is a 'nice place to visit'...(ahem!)
Back in 1991, an event occurred that had a big impact on my life - the death of Freddie Mercury. Not least because I was and still am a Queen fan. I loved Freddie's show performances; he was a true entertainer as well as a great songwriter and performer.
It was in April 1992, whilst watching the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, that a group came on stage and performed 'Hammer to Fall'. Well, this just blew me away! It was such a fantastic performance, full of energy and enthusiasm. I then realised this was the same band who had released 'More Than Words' a little while earlier; I found this difficult to comprehend - the change in style (I hated 'More Than Words').
Anyway, the next day I went out and bought 'Pornograffiti' and that did it - I became a huge fan overnight. I joined the fan club, where I met my friend Jenn, who now lives in North Carolina, but who lived near Boston at that time. We swapped CDs, cuttings, photographs etc. Then in May 1993 I went over to stay with her and her family. We did the whole fan tour, and the first stop when I got off the plane, was to go and meet Paul Geary at his house! He was very very nice and genuinely surprised at how far I had travelled and how Jenn and I had met and become friends. We did the whole tour; all their homes, video locations and favourite haunts.

The first time I saw them live was at this Bryan
Adams gig in July 1992 at Maine Road, Manchester. This
was a fantastic gig, as other artists included Little Angels and Squeeze;
both of whom I also love, although Little Angels are no more! Bruce Dickinson - Little Angels ->
The man himself!
I then saw them on their 92-93 tour at the GMEX in Manchester and
at the NEC in Birmingham. |

Through a penpal in Texas, I managed to obtain backstage passes for Extreme's support band, Hardline, whose album 'Double Eclipse' was receiving a lot of attention from the music industry at that time.
All the
guys were really nice and here's a pic of me with Joey, the lead singer.
Anyway, the upshot of all this is that I have a HUGE archive of Extreme stuff; pics, press clippings, reviews, CDs, minidiscs etc. - over the coming weeks I shall be putting a lot of this up on these pages, so please check back soon.
Jenn and I still keep in touch and I plan to go back to the States to see her soon..
Pat is now back working with his old pal Jim Mouradian, @ MGuitars in MA (Pat worked here as a teenager) - and he has really short hair now! |
|
Paul left the band a few years back to pursue a career in management; he was replaced for a while by Mike Mangini. Paul manages a club call The Backstage and a band called Godsmack. |
|
Nuno now has his own band, the Mourning Widows, his wife Suze, also has an album out, which he helped to write and he played on some songs. |
|
Gary is now the lead singer with Van Halen. |
